Antique Berlin Piano & Organ Company Upright Piano
In Canada piano building can be traced back to the second decade of the 19th century. It grew into a major industry from 1890 to 1925.
As the demand for civilized musical instruments increased with the growing Canadian population, it became apparent that the importing such a large instrument like the piano in any numbers from Europe was not feasible. The shipping costs involved and the risk of damage during this long voyage.
The first builders in Canada - skilled British or German craftsmen - worked in small workshops with few assistants, producing probably no more than one or two pianos per month. This beautiful piano is a true piece of our Canadian social history.
This piano is considered to be in "good" condition, and definitly a candidate for restoration, considering it's history.
However, it will definitely need some professional restoration work to some components: vertical strings, soundboard, hammers, bridges and keys. It functions and plays well, although it needs to be tuned.
Must be seen to be appreciated. Serious inquiries only. Museums and Historians welcome!
